Horatio wears a red tie, black trousers and a white shirt in order to set himself apart from the other students at his school. He wore a red tie which as connotations of blood, death and danger and he wears white with a red tie to show that his innocence is tainted with danger because white has connotations of purity and innocence. Horatio wears glasses in order to show that he's intelligent because glasses are typically associated with intelligence
and academic achievements, it is a stereotype. For example in the "Secret Window", the main character Mort wears glasses and we later find out that he's a writer. Mort is also wearing black which reinforces danger and darkness therefore Horatio wore black trousers in order to emphasise dangerand tension. The fact that Horatio wears black trousers instead of jeans reinforces the fact Horatio is different from other pupils because jeans are casual and worn by most young teenagers.
Jemima- Mia Charles For the opening scene, Mia wears black and red clothes in order to follow the conventions of psychological thrillers. Red has connotations of danger and blood and black has connotations of darkness and death. Horatio is also wearing a red tie which shows that the characters share a connection even if it is bleak. Similarly in "The Butterfly Effect" Evan as a child wears a red t-shirt with a black jacket that had red lining in the opening scene which emphasises the later dangers that appear in the films.
